Hurricane and Storm Boat Recovery Checklist
A storm recovery checklist for displaced, flooded, grounded, or damaged boats after severe weather in Southwest Florida.
Document before cleanup
Take wide photos showing where the boat ended up, surrounding property, dock or lift damage, hull contact points, water level, registration numbers, and debris.
Check access before dispatch
Storm debris, closed roads, damaged docks, low bridges, blocked canals, and marina restrictions can change the recovery plan.
Do not assume the boat can float or tow
Hull damage, submerged batteries, contaminated bilge water, steering damage, and engine exposure can make immediate towing unsafe.
Coordinate the next destination
After recovery, the boat may need haul-out, storage, survey, repair, drying, disposal, or insurer-directed handling.
Prioritize active leaks and environmental concerns
Fuel smell, sheen, submerged batteries, and active sinking should be reported clearly and handled quickly.
